Made the Weekend

Our story

A UK weekend guide you can actually trust

Made the Weekend is a small, independent publication covering UK weekends worth the drive. We're built on one rule: nobody writes about a place they haven't been.

Most travel writing is either too broad to be useful or too thin to trust - increasingly, churned out by people who have never set foot in the places they describe. We started Made the Weekend to be the opposite: a guide that tells you exactly where to go this weekend, where to stay when you get there, and what's genuinely worth your time, from people who have actually been.

That first-hand rule shapes everything. A guide only goes up once one of our contributors has made the trip, stayed the nights and formed a real opinion. Every guide carries the byline of whoever went, so you always know a real person stood where the words describe. When something's overrated, we say so.

The library is small on purpose and grows one genuine weekend at a time. That's slower than churning out lists, and it's the whole point.

Who writes for us

Made the Weekend is written by a small group of contributors who genuinely travel the places we cover, overseen by an editor who holds every guide to the same standard. Each guide is bylined to the person who took the trip. We'd rather publish fewer, genuinely first-hand guides than pad the site with places nobody visited.
